Cairns influencer, model and mum Libby Powell has been recognised at one of the country’s top fitness modelling competitions over the weekend.
The 29-year-old placed second in the coveted Diva Bikini Pro category, and first in the Evening Gown round at this year’s World Beauty Fitness Fashion Australia competition held on Saturday in the Gold Coast.
The model said she could not be happier with the result.
“I feel very happy, very overwhelmed. I can’t believe I did so well to be honest,” Ms Powell said.
Her success may not have been much of a surprise to others – the model was crowned Australian bikini pro champion the last time the competition was held in 2019.
“I haven’t competed for so long, I didn’t know if I still had it in me. It was very nerve-racking,” she said.
“Some of the newbies coming through are so impressive.”
The past three years’ WBFF events were cancelled due to Covid.
Ms Powell had been preparing to compete last year when the competition was axed just four weeks out.
“That was devastating, I was obviously in the middle of prep,” she said.
Fitness models generally go through intense preparation regimes in the lead up to competitions that help them drop fat without losing muscle mass.
Ms Powell described her lead up to the weekend as “very restrictive”.
“I was on a meal plan, eating the same thing every day,” Ms Powell said.
“It was full on, and I was training five days a week.”
After the show she celebrated with some underwhelming pizza and pasta.
“The weird thing is you realise it’s not even that good.”
With Australia conquered, Ms Powell has her sights set on the WBFF Worlds competition in Las Vegas next year.
