THE remote Far North community of Rossville has been rocked by a second fatal crash within the space of a week.
Police said a Rossville man in his 60s died after a single-vehicle rollover just outside the tiny Cook Shire town about 7.20pm on Friday night.
Initial investigations indicate a four-wheel drive was travelling east on Collingwood Road when it left the roadway and rolled.
The man was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Police said he sustained significant injuries and died at the scene.
The Cairns Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
It is the second fatal crash at Rossville in seven days, after renowned Indigenous artist Clarence Ball, 49, was killed in a car crash on Homerule Rd on the evening of September 2.
Police have confirmed Mr Ball was attending the four-day Orin-Aya festival with three others when a vehicle lost control on wet roads and crashed into Wallaby Creek.
The artwork of Mr Ball, a traditional owner of the Wujal Wujal area, has been exhibited at Bana Yirriji Art Centre, featured in Art Collector magazine and at the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair.
