A 55-year-old man has died after a drowning incident at a popular Far North swimming hole, emergency services have confirmed.

A man has died after a drowning incident at a popular Far North swimming hole.
It comes after emergency services, including swift water rescue crews responded to reports of a man missing in the water at Behana Gorge, 32km south of Cairns.
Police have confirmed a report would be prepared for the coroner following the death of the 55-year-old Brisbane man on Sunday afternoon.
A QPS spokesman confirmed emergency services responded around 1.30pm following reports a man fell off a waterfall at Behana Gorge and was unable to be located.
A search and rescue commenced, and the man was located around 2.30pm.
Medical assistance was rendered at the scene however the man was declared dead.
Earlier, a Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman confirmed the man was treated after he was pulled from the water in a life-threatening condition at Clamshell Falls at 1.30pm.
“The matter is now with police,” the spokeswoman said.
Earlier, a Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman confirmed three crews, including swift water rescue technicians, had started search operations at Behana Gorge.
“Three crews are on scene responding to a person that’s apparently missing at the falls,” the spokeswoman said.
“Swift water rescue technicians are currently staged, ready to commence search operations.”
Queensland Police and Queensland Ambulance services confirmed crews were also on scene.
“They are searching for someone in the water. We’re not sure much about the patient, but there’s definitely a rescue going on,” a QAS spokeswoman said.
