THOUSANDS of fans from across the Far North and Australia dusted off their best cowboy hats and boots for a highly-anticipated mega festival weekend.

Mareeba Rodeo Arena was the place to be as the third Savannah in the Round brought in international acts and over 15,000 people, making it the biggest event in the festival’s short history.

One of the international stars in the line-up, Mackenzie Porter, performed over the weekend and said she couldn’t wait to come back to the Far North to play again.

“Mareeba was absolutely incredible, I can’t believe the energy Australian country fans bring,” she said.

“I can feel how much they love country music.”

Fans that spilled through the gates at Mareeba were excited to get out for the long weekend for the music, food, camping and time with friends and family.

Camping over the three day weekend, Palm Cove’s Chris Gust brought his whole family along to indulge in the country vibe.

“We’re camping out, this weekend is about family, music, food, the drinking,” he said.

Dressing the part, 9-year-old Codi Gust wore the most western-looking hat she found lying around and put on boots that would make old-timey sheriffs jealous.

“I already saw the Southbound xo girls and I got a signature of them on my hat,” she said.

“This is my third festival concert, I’m excited.”

Travelling up from Townsville and Newcastle in Sydney, Angela and Gavin Stewart were eager for their first Savannah festival.

“We’ve been here since Wednesday, we’re doing a little glamping,” Ms Stewart said.

“We’re relaxing, enjoying each other’s company and enjoying the music, the local food.”

“I love a lot of what’s going on but Brad Paisley is who we came up to see,” Mr Stewart said.

One woman party, Karen Bridge, said she was in Mareeba to “rock out” to the mega line up of artists she loved and ones she hadn’t heard of before.

“Even though I’m here by myself, I know I’m going to have a great time,” she said.

“They’ve got some great roll ups for later on, Adam (Brand) and Brad (Paisley).

“It’s going to be fantastic, cheers to Savannah and thank you Mareeba.”
