Police have appealed for witnesses after a 77-year-old man died when his Ford Courier collided with a truck on the Atherton Tablelands.
Police have appealed for witnesses following a fatal two-vehicle crash on the Atherton Tablelands.
Just before 8am on Tuesday, paramedics were called to the crash at Lake Barrine about 8kms east of Yungaburra.
Paramedics assessed a patient in a life-threatening condition following a vehicle and truck crash at 7.51am.
Police investigations indicate a silver Ford Courier and a white Mitsubishi truck collided on the Gillies Range Road
A man of unknown age was entrapped in the car that collided with a truck.
The driver of the Courier, a 77-year-old Peeramon man, was declared dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck, a 38-year-old Gordonvale man, was treated for minor injuries.
Investigators are appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to contact police.
Investigations are ongoing.
Earlier, Queensland Ambulance Service medics from the scene had declared a “very dangerous situation” and urgently requested police back-up due to fuel leaking from damaged vehicles igniting.
“They have advised they need QPS due to a fire on scene,” an ambulance spokesman said.
The spokesman said the entrapped driver was not taken to hospital.
A Queensland Police Service spokesman said both lanes of the road were blocked and motorists have advised to expect delays and to avoid the area if possible.
In an update at 9.45am police stated the Gillies Range road remained closed near Lake Barrine and traffic diversions were in place.
And at 1.10pm Transport and Main Roads sent an alert to motorists that the road had reopened.
The driver of the truck was taken to Atherton Hospital with minor injuries.
