A vicious blaze which “took some time” to extinguish has destroyed an older model vehicle on the Kuranda Range Rd.
Video shared to social media showed the remaining shell of a vehicle well-involved in an inferno on the Kennedy Hwy, near the intersection of Saddle Mountain Rd on Friday.
Authorities confirmed the blaze to the car was an isolated incident which caused no harm to any people or damage to any other property.
However, a Queensland Fire Department spokesman said the fire “took a bit to get out and extinguished.”
He said three crews attended the incident about 7.15pm and at 7.50pm the scene was left in the hands of police.
A Queensland Police spokeswoman said the convertible Saab was completely burnt out before officers waited for it to cool and be towed about 11.10pm.
She said traffic was flowing again by about 8.25pm.
The spokeswoman said police had ruled the fire as non-suspicious and confirmed it was not a stolen vehicle.
On Sunday, in an unrelated incident, Queensland Ambulance Service reported a man in his 30s was taken to Cairns Hospital following a single-vehicle rollover on the Kennedy Hwy at 12.07am.
