A father charged with murdering his five-year-old son in 2022 has told a Cairns court he is not guilty of murder.
Jason Ross Allan Fourmile, 27, has been committed to stand trial in the Supreme Court on seven charges, including murder, following the completion of a committal hearing in the Cairns Magistrates Court.
During the hearing, several family members and medical witnesses were called to give evidence before Magistrate Sandra Pearson.
They testified about the boy’s injuries, and Fourmile’s behaviour around the time of his son’s hospitalisation.
Five-year-old Caiden was taken to Yarrabah Hospital on August 16, 2022, and later flown to Townsville University Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
Fourmile’s legal team told the court they accepted there was a prima facie case on all charges and indicated Fourmile had something to say about the charge of murder.
“I’d like to plead not guilty to murder,” Fourmile told the court.
In addition to the murder charge, Fourmile is also charged with grievous bodily harm, torture, two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm while armed, and two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, all alleged to have been committed against the boy between June 9 and August 17 in 2022.
He did not enter any pleas to the other charges.
Ms Pearson committed all matters for trial in the Supreme Court of Cairns.
Fourmile did not apply for bail.
