Tantalising French pastries and luscious coffee are on offer at a newly-opened cafe in the heart of the Daintree rainforest.

BLOOMFIELD is home to a new licenced cafe and restaurant with the newly-opened Hideaway cafe at Bloomfield Beach Camp.

Kat Hewitt and Craig Noble bought the four hectare Bloomfield Beach Camp last September.

The camp has 10 powered and 10 unpowered sites as well as three cabins, three safari tents and a two bedroom cottage.

It has a well-equipped camp kitchen, but Ms Hewitt said guests would constantly ask for a cafe and restaurant.

She said it was the only licensed venue between Cape Tribulation and the Lion’s Den, at the top of the Bloomfield Track.

“The space has been servicing locals and travellers alike in various formats since the late 1980s,” Ms Hewitt said.

But it had been closed for some time until the couple decided to make it a stand-alone business and Port Douglas locals Elise Booth and Elsa Rieant came on board.

Ms Booth has worked as a barista in the Yarra Valley, Byron Bay and Port Douglas while Ms Rieant, who is French, trained as chef and pastry chef at the Ferrandi Paris School.

“Sipping Duck have come on board as the coffee supplier, produce has been supplied from the local region as much as possible and relationships developed with local market wholesalers,” Ms Hewitt said.

“The food menu has developed with influences of the rainforest.”

Hideaway opened on April 14 to steady trade and a sold out evening, Ms Hewitt said.

The camp is at the northern end of the Bloomfield track in the little township of Ayton on the Bloomfield River, one hour south of Cooktown.
