THE Christmas Party Race Day at Cairns’ Cannon Park Racecourse has enjoyed big crowd numbers as race goers enjoyed the festive feels of the family-focused event.
Attendee and regular fashions on the field participant Tina Cahill said she noticed larger crowds than the previous year’s event.
“I love the Christmas Race Day because it’s a family-friendly event,” Ms Cahill said. “Everyone’s enjoying themselves; it’s so positive to see.”
The Cahill family had all the fashions judges’ eyes on their tasteful pink-and-red schemed outfits, picking up two prizes: Ms Cahill won the Lady of the Day award and her son Braxton Cahill earned runner up in the Best Dressed Child category.
“Pink and red have been big at fashions this year. It’s nice to see the kids dressing up too and enjoying the day,” she said.
Mother-daughter duo Fiona and Imogen Green won the Best Dressed Couple category and Grace Connor secured the Best Dressed Child’s award in a quaint white dress with fascinator to match.
Cairns Jockey Club general manager Cameron Riches said the day had a great atmosphere and was one for families to enjoy.
“The crowd numbers were really good. People were dressed up in their best Christmas colours,” Mr Riches said.
“Santa even made a surprise visit and amazed the kids.
“And it was fantastic to announce Chloe Fegatilli as the face of the Cairns Cup Carnival for 2023.
“We have two more race days this year on November 24 and December 8, and then a big New Year’s race day on January 2.”
