The Cairns Show is back bigger than ever with an all new attraction for the thrill seekers set to launch punters over 55 metres into the air.
President of the Cairns Show Association Ian Allen said they were expecting record numbers to walk through the gates this year.
“All the shows on the run since they left Ipswich have had record crowds so we are definitely looking at around 70,000 to come through over the three days,” he said.
The show kicks of on Wednesday, July 19, and will run through to Friday offering all the show favourites including showbags, animal nursery, classic snacks, and rides for the whole family.
Preparations for the big three day-event are well-advanced.
“All of the people are bumping in today, it’s a hive of activity,” Mr Allen said.
“The rides are being set up, the animal nursery has arrived, its very busy.”
New to the show this year is the 55m ride, Warrior, which replaces the Crazy Coaster ride with the largest and fastest looping ride in Australia.
“The roller coaster is not here this year but the same owner has a new ride called the Warrior it is 55m tall and is the highest ride in the southern hemisphere, it’s a big, big ride.”
Other pulse-pounding rides include old favourites like The Beast, Sky Flyer, Extreme, Space Roller, Cliff Hanger, Starship, Stars, Super Nova, Ghost Train, Sound Wave, Break Dance, Rock N Roll, Kiddie Land, and Twister Ride.
For those with a thirst for plus sized stuffed animals Queenslands largest sideshow alley will also have all the best mini games from balloon darts to the shooting range.
The show also promises to bring the best of Cairns’ agricultural, pastoral, mining and cultural industries with jaw-dropping entertainment, incredible competition in events like the high speed pole climbing, wood cutting and Esky racing, as well as educational displays and local business exhibits.
Mr Allen said that apart from staff and the committee there would be easily over 100 volunteers who help make the show happen behind the scenes.
“I hope people come and support their show because it is the people of Cairns’ show and the people in the regions around Cairns’ show and it is their showgrounds.”
Cairns Show gates open daily at 9am and close at 9pm just before the Fireworks.
