The results are in and certified: Kryssi O’Hare and Malcolm Wright have won the Cairns Posts’ fittest physiques competition in a tight contest.
Ms O’Hare won by a single vote, ahead of CrossFit Dungeon’s Ashleigh Burton. The ladies were even coming into the final night of voting, but Ms O’Hare – 45, a mother of three and owner of Bungalow gym GETFIT Results Training – pipped Ms Burton at the post.
She said she was stoked but very surprised.
“I did not expect that in a million years. I just do what I do … hats off to everyone else. There were some amazing physiques on that list,” Ms O’Hare said.
“This is awesome, especially as a mum. I think a lot of people would see those physiques and think they’re unachievable as a parent.”
While Ms O’Hare, who has run 27 marathons, said finding a balance between training and parenthood was a challenge, she attributed much of her physical success to proper nutrition.
“Being an endurance athlete, I find if I don’t eat enough it doesn’t aid in having a strong body,” she said.
“Fitness isn’t seasonal for me. It’s an all-year-round thing … a result of my training, nutrition and everyday life.”
Fitstop’s Charlotte Pearce and World Gym’s Alysha Magee rounded out the top four for the ladies’ competition.
Topping the men’s list was Malcolm Wright – a Cairns Airport firefighter and owner of Manunda’s CrossFit Dungeon, and who was unavailable for comment – was two votes ahead of second-place getter Rhys Payne, who was himself closely followed by hot favourite – based on Facebook comments – Matty Greenway. Previous MAFS star and local champion for men’s mental health Drew Brauer came in fourth.
The Cairns Post would like to thank all who were brave enough to participate, those who voted and anyone else who respectfully participated, nominated others or cheered on their friends.
Both Mr Wright and Ms O’Hare have won themselves a professional photo shoot.
