A would-be thief has left behind a severed finger after a botched break-in at a Cairns educational facility earlier this week.
It is understood the finger was discovered after an attempted break-in at the Cairns TAFE between Monday 8am on January 13, and 6.30pm on Tuesday, January 14.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman confirmed detectives were investigating a break and enter at the Eureka Street education facility.

Police are currently examining forensic evidence seized at the scene.
While no property had been reported stolen, investigations are continuing to locate the owner of the finger, and anyone with information is urged to contact police.
