Unexpected detail in Ash Barty’s baby announcement leaves Sunrise host ‘shocked’

While joining in congratulating Australian tennis great Ash Barty’s baby news, a Sunrise host was “shocked” by one surprising detail.

Australian tennis great Ash Barty took to social media on Tuesday to welcome the birth of her first child with longtime partner Garry Kissick.

“Our beautiful boy,” the 27-year-old’s Instagram post read.

One small detail in the announcement, however, left Sunrise host Nat Barr “shocked”.

“There’s something wrong there,” Barr said to co-host Matt Shirvington.

“It’s a normal name.”

Barty also revealed on Tuesday that the name of her bouncing bub was Hayden.

“Welcome to the world, Hayden!” the former world no. 1 said.

Barr said she was “shocked” by the decision.

“Like, what on earth?” she said.

Shirvington, the show’s new host following the departure of veteran Sunrise presenter David Koch last month, said it likely boiled down to Barty being a “normal person”.

“Down to earth couple, makes perfect sense,” he said.

Since Barty’s shock retirement announcement in 2022, the former world No.1 has reaffirmed she has no plans to return to professional tennis.

Barty married Garry Kissick in an intimate Queensland wedding several months after her official departure from the court, announcing her pregnancy in January of this year.

“2023 set to be the best year yet,” she said.

Celebratory comments poured in on Tuesday from fans and celebrities alike, with Anthony Albanese congratulating the pair, while the official Wimbledon account probed as to whether there was a “future Wimbledon champ” in their midst.
