Four people have been injured after an explosion caused a roof to partially collapse at a mine in Sydney’s south.

A group of people have been injured after a mine explosion in Sydney’s south.

Emergency services responded to a call at Appin West Colliery at Douglas Park about 3am on Sunday following reports of an explosion.

A roof partially collapsed during the explosion.

One man was thrown three metres into the air and was buried in rubble before he was able to free himself, Sunrise reported.

A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said crews were called to the scene about 3am on Sunday.

Two patients were taken to Liverpool Hospital, while another two were taken to Wollongong Hospital.

“One of the patients was a male in his 50s — he had head and pelvic injuries,” the spokesperson said.

An investigation into what caused the explosion is now underway.
