Search for man seen disappearing in water in northern NSW continues into second day
A concerned witness told police she saw a man struggling in the water before failing to resurface.

A frantic search for a man who disappeared beneath the surf at a popular beach near Byron Bay will continue into its second day.
Emergency services were called to Main Beach at Lennox Head at about 3:20pm on Christmas Eve, following reports a swimmer was seen in distress in the water.
Police immediately commenced a search for the man, which continued into the early evening, but were unable to locate him.
Authorities resumed their search at about 7.30am on Christmas morning to locate the man, who has been described as of caucasian appearance with brown hair.
The search involves local police, Surf Lifesavers, Marine Rescue NSW, and a rescue helicopter.
No one has been reported missing at this stage, a NSW police spokesperson has confirmed.
Police are urging anyone with information to contact Ballina police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
