Rangers investigate woman bitten by dingo on K’gari

The tourist was walking to the toilet when she was attacked by a dingo, prompting authorities to warn other visitors about the importance of safety.

A woman walking to the toilet alone was bitten on the thigh by a dingo while visiting the popular K’gari, formerly Fraser Island, off the Queensland coast.

The international tourist was bitten while visiting Beach Camping Zone 6 on the east coast of the island at 8am on Sunday.

The woman was bitten by a dingo while walking to the toilet.

A Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) spokesman said rangers were advised the woman had been bitten in the thigh, leaving two puncture wounds.

“Rangers were told that a group of international tourists arrived on the beach and that nearby campers warned them of a dingo in the area,” he said.

Rangers monitor the dingoes on K’gari.

“The dingo approached the woman while she was going to the toilet alone. She wasn’t carrying a stick and started to run as it approached her.

“The dingo gave chase and bit her on the left rear thigh resulting in two puncture wounds.

“Campers nearby overheard and chased the dingo away.”

Rangers are investigating the incident and will continue patrols in the area while monitoring the animal.

Visitors and residents on K’gari are reminded to remain vigilant at all times of dingoes on the island.

People are urged to keep children at arm’s length, never walk alone and carry a stick at all times.
