A man is in hospital after he was shot while sitting in a parked car in western Sydney last night.

The shooting happened in Penrith, NSW Police say, just before 10pm.

Emergency services were called to Hickeys Lane on reports of a shooting, where police officers found a man, believed to be in his 20s, with a gunshot wound.

“The man was treated by paramedics for a gunshot wound and was taken to hospital for further treatment,” the police said.

An investigation into the circumstances of the incident has commenced.

A short time later, reports emerged of a burning vehicle in the nearby suburb of Claremont Meadows, which the police believe could be linked to the shooting.

“The fire was extinguished by Fire and Rescue NSW personnel,” the police said.

“Officers from Nepean Police Area Command have established a crime scene, which will be forensically examined by specialist officers.

“While investigations into both incidents are in their infancy, one line of inquiry being examined is that both incidents are linked.”
