Two men have been issued fines after they removed part of a Bondi Beach art installation shining light on the Jewish hostages held in Gaza during the war.

The art installation From Sunrise to Sunset was erected on Thursday, with 230 blue and white towels draped over the railing and thongs placed on the ground at the popular Sydney beach.

The work was erected by a group of young Australian Jews as part of the global “kidnapped” poster campaign drawing attention to the 230 Israeli men, women and children held hostage by the terror group Hamas following its attack on Israel in October.

NSW Police allege the two men removed posters from the art installation about 2pm on Thursday, hours after it was set up by organisers.

Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command officers later spoke to a 25-year-old Granville man and a 40-year-old Bankstown man.

Both men have been issued criminal infringement notices for offensive behaviour, which carries a fine of $500 each.

The Australian Jewish Association posted the video of the men allegedly tearing down posters to its social media channels on Thursday before the fines were issued.

AJA chief executive Robert Gregory said it was “unAustralian” for anyone to “tear down pictures of kidnapped children”.
