North Melbourne star Luke Davies-Uniacke will be a Roo for life after signing monster extension

One of the most sought after free agents in the competition is off the market and will be at his home club for life after signing a monster extension.

Crows cop ANOTHER 'Incorrect decision'

North Melbourne superstar Luke Davies-Uniacke has knocked back lucrative offers elsewhere to sign at the Roos long term.

Davies-Uniacke was set to be a restricted free agent at the end of this season and was fast becoming the hottest signature in the competition.

The 25-year-old is now bound to be a Roo for life after committing until the end of 2032 on a deal worth a reported $1.3 million a season.

St Kilda was one club chasing Davies-Uniacke but it has again been knocked back by a ready-made gun.

Davies-Uniacke has played 112 games at North Melbourne and is the reigning best-and-fairest winner.

He said the Roos’ Round 2 win was the final push he needed to put pen to paper.

“It feels awesome to finally get it done, out of the way and can focus on footy and focus on the growth of the group,” Davies-Uniacke said.

“I probably knew, a lot off the back of the Dees game, but it was never really a thought of wins and losses, it was more how I felt the group was heading.”

North Melbourne head of football Brady Rawlings said Davies-Uniacke’s signature was a “show of confidence”.

“Luke is a very important and much-loved member of our playing group, so to have him sign on for seven more years is brilliant news for us and our supporters,” Rawlings said.

“His long-term commitment despite significant interest from other clubs is also a fantastic show of confidence in our program and the future of the club.

“At 25, Luke has plenty of great football still ahead of him, and we look forward to watching him deliver it here at North Melbourne.”

North Melbourne vice-captain Harry Sheezel, who has also extended until the end of 2030, told NewsWire ahead of the season that he had noticed a lift in Davies-Uniacke’s commitment to the Roos.

“This year compared to other years, I’ve noticed he’s just so invested in our group from a leader’s perspective and helping out us young midfielders,” Sheezel said.

“I think he just ultimately wants success and I have no doubt if we win a few games early on he will sign the contract and he’ll lock into the Roos.”

Davies-Uniacke is now the sixth Roo to show faith to the path the club is on, joining Sheezel (2030), Jy Simpkin, Nick Larkey, Cam Zurhaar and Tristan Xerri (end of 2029).
