Gold Coast man Geoff Rayner has been found safe by police after he went missing more than one week ago.

Mr Rayner, 53, had last been seen on Allandale Entrance in Mermaid Waters about 8am on May 8.

It was revealed on Wednesday that he had been found alive.

“The 53-year-old man missing from Mermaid Waters since May 8 has been located safe and well,” a Queensland police spokesperson said.

“The media and public are thanked for their assistance.”

It is understood he was located by family members and has since returned into their care.

In a previous statement, a Queensland police spokesperson said Mr Rayner’s disappearance was “out of character”.

Police did not provide information on where he was found.

When Mr Rayner first went missing, he reportedly left home in a white Toyota LandCruiser, leaving behind his wallet and phone.

He was believed to be travelling south from his Gold Coast home to the regional town of Tenterfield in NSW’s north.

His family spent days driving through the area looking for him or his car.

Mr Rayner’s fiancee Carmen May said on social media that she had been informed he crossed the border into NSW on May 8 at Tugun, a coastal town at the junction of the Pacific and Gold Coast highways.

At the time, Ms May thanked her family for their commitment in helping her find her fiance.

“I personally want to thank my aunt and brother who have flown interstate to help with the search and my two amazing daughters, daughter-in-law and son-in-law who have taken time from work, lived on no sleep, handed out flyers and driving thousands of kilometres and not to mention put your lives on hold to search for my love Geoff Rayner,” she said.

“My daughters have given up their Mother’s Day to be in an interstate motel only to wake and return back to our search.

“I am so blessed to have you and love you all more than you know.”
