The body of a man has been found in the days-long search for a swimmer who went missing in one of the country’s longest rivers on Sunday.
The 37-year-old man was riding on the back of a floaty being towed behind a boat on the Murrumbidgee River at Darlington Point at about 2pm on Sunday when he fell into the water.
He failed to resurface and emergency services were notified.
A large-scale emergency rescue mission was launched involving officers from the Murrumbidgee Police District, NSW Ambulance, State Emergency Service (SES) and Volunteer Rescue Association (VRA) taking part in the search.
The search was suspended on Sunday evening after the man could not be found, and recommenced early Monday morning with still no results.
The multi-agency effort entered its third day on Tuesday and the man’s body was recovered at about 8.10am.
A crime scene has been established and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
