A man has been rushed to hospital after he sustained a serious head injury when he slipped while trying to jump off a cliff into a pool at a Christmas Day beach party.
Police were told the man in his 20s was jumping from a cliff into an ocean pool at Bronte Beach when he slipped and fell on a hard surface.
Emergency services rushed to the scene about 4.30pm on Wednesday following reports he had sustained a head injury.
The man was treated by the side of the pool by paramedics, with a specialist medical team arriving in a helicopter at nearby Calga Reserve.
NSW Police confirmed the man has been taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a serious condition.
Police are investigating the incident and speaking with witnesses at the scene.
Officers also attended a nearby bus stop at 4.35pm following reports that a man had been assaulted.
Paramedics treated a man, who was reported to have been unconscious.
Police are speaking with people at the scene to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
NSW Police, paramedics and firefighters attended the beach where thousands of locals and visitors have been celebrating Christmas.
The site has been a popular spot particularly for expats and backpackers to celebrate Christmas Day in recent years.
The party has included DJs playing music on the parkland while police patrol crowds on horseback.
NSW Police said they would maintain a visible presence after residents slammed last year’s iteration of the event as the “worst ever” and “disgusting”, one of whom said it was “worse than a third world country”.
More to come.
