An injured man has been rescued after spending the night stuck on a Yarra River embankment.
A man slipped and fell into shallow waters near Studley Park Rd in the Melbourne suburb of Kew on Tuesday night due to wet conditions.
He remained stuck until Wednesday morning when a nearby resident found him.
The 55-year-old man was unable to pull himself free due to a leg injury as temperatures dropped down to a chilly 8C overnight.
Fire Rescue Victoria central operations commander Mitch Simons told the Herald Sun the man was “pretty muddy and dirty” and had “a couple of tumbles”.
“He’s had an attempt to try and get up, (but) because he had a pre-existing injury he was struggling in the wet and cold and so forth,” Mr Simons said.
Fire Rescue Victoria crews arrived on scene opposite Collingwood Children’s Farm.
About 8.32am High Angle Rescue crews reached the patient and placed in a rescue basket for transfer and extraction to a lower track.
“The high angle rescue crew from Fire Rescue Victoria (are) really well trained in what they do, (they) set up really good safe systems, and were able to get the gentleman out safely,” Mr Simons told the Herald Sun.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said paramedics responded to reports of a fall about 7.20am, and the man was transported to St Vincent’s Hospital in a stable condition.
