Man injured, gunman on run after drive-by shooting in Hampton, Melbourne

A man has been shot on the street in a suspected drive-by shooting, with police now hunting a gunman.

A gunman is on the run after a man was shot in the street in Melbourne overnight.

Police were called to Prince Street, Hampton, shortly before midnight on Tuesday following reports a man had been found with a gunshot wound.

Initial investigations suggest the shot was fired from a vehicle.

The man, who has not yet been formally identified, was transported to The Alfred Hospital with injuries to his upper body and torso, Ambulance Victoria said.

Despite an extensive search of the area, police have been unable to locate the vehicle or the offender.

A crime scene has been established and the investigation is ongoing.

Detectives believe the shooting was targeted.

Forensic investigators remained at the scene on Wednesday morning, with Today reporting detectives were walking around in an attempt to track down the car the shot is believed to have been fired from.
