The victim was reportedly in a car when he was shot and managed to call out for help before he died.

Victoria Police confirmed a post mortem will be carried out on Saturday to determine the cause of the man’s death

Homicide squad detectives are investigating the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.

Investigations are ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact police.

The fatal shooting comes just a day after a stabbing attack in a neighbouring suburb left a teenager fighting for his life in hospital.

Emergency services were called to Lake St near Caroline Springs Shopping Centre about 5.15pm on Thursday.

The fatal shooting comes just a day after a teenager was rushed to hospital following an alleged stabbing at CS Square shopping centre, just a short drive away.

Armed offenders allegedly got out of a car and approached the teenager in a laneway before attacking him.

The teenager suffered stab wounds to his hand and upper body.

He was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with serious injuries, while the alleged perpetrators fled the scene by car before police arrived.

Photos from the scene show blood-soaked clothing was left on a nearby footpath.
