A cyclist has allegedly been killed in a hit-and-run in Queensland.
Police allege the 34-year-old Bundaberg Central man was riding his bicycle on Takalvan St in Millbank, in the Bundaberg region, at about 7.50pm on Tuesday when he was struck by a black Hyunadi IX35.
The cyclist died at the scene.
CCTV footage from the area shows him riding shortly before the incident.
It is alleged the Hyundai - which police say was stolen from a home in Norville - fled the scene and was located a short time later near a Thai restaurant.
Senior Sergeant Cameron Schneider told reporters there “weren’t that many people around” during the incident, though there were reports of two cars drag racing in the lead-up to the man’s death.
“That will form part of our investigation, whether they were travelling with excess speed or just passing each other,” he said per 9News.
Following investigations, a 21-year-old Norville man was arrested in Bundaberg West on Wednesday afternoon.
He was charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death.
He was refused bail and is set to appear before Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Thursday.
