Live Breaking News: Sweeping new covid restrictions in SA
South Australia will put in place harsh new restrictions, including closing retail, after another covid case emerged.
South Australia has announced stringent new restrictions after another new Covid-19 case emerged.
Meanwhile, Victoria’s fifth lockdown has been extended as the state grapples with a super-spreading Delta outbreak. And in Sydney, a fifth person has died from covid, reportedly a family member of the removalists who travelled to regional NSW and tested positive.
South Australian Premier Steven Marshall said all non-essential retail would be closed, fewer people could go to home, dining would be outdoors only and mask wearing would come back in. However he is insistent it is not a "lockdown".
The state now has two virus cases, a father and daughter who recently came in from overseas.
"Our focus is to minimise effects on businesses and have smallest disruption that we can," the Premier said this afternoon.
"It will be a disaster if we have to go into long term lockdown."
