A four-year-old boy has drowned in a pool in Hobart over the weekend.

The boy was found unresponsive in an above-ground pool in the front yard of his Bridgewater home on Saturday, police said in a statement.

Police and emergency crews were called just after 4.30pm on Saturday, but the child could not be revived and died at the scene.

“This is a tragic reminder of the importance of ensuring pools have adequate fences in accordance with local government by-laws and that children are always supervised when around pools,” police said in a statement.

A report is being prepared for the coroner.
