A young child is in a critical condition after she was hit by a car in Sydney’s north on Sunday.

An 8-year-old girl is in critical condition after she was struck by a car in Sydney’s north.

Emergency services were called to Somerville Rd, Hornsby Heights at about 10.40am on Sunday after reports a pedestrian had been hit by a car.

Upon arriving at the scene, police found an 8-year-old girl unconscious on the road after she had reportedly been struck by a Holden SUV.

The girl was transported by paramedics to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, where she remains in a critical condition.

A crime scene has been established, and the driver of the vehicle involved has been taken to Hornsby Hospital for mandatory testing.

The driver did not sustain any injuries.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident and have urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
