A man has been charged with allegedly making threats to former ABC presenter Stan Grant.

The former Q+A host, who stepped down from the role only days ago over online abuse, reported the online threats to police in Sydney just before midday Tuesday.

An investigation was launched before officers arrested a 41-year-old man in Fairfield Heights at about 6.40pm Wednesday.

He has been charged with use carriage to threaten serious harm, and carriage service to menace/harass/offend.

He has been granted bail to appear in Fairfield Local Court on Wednesday.

Mr Grant, a 59-year-old Wiradjuri man, used an ABC opinion piece published on Friday to announce he was stepping down as Q+A host after 10 months in the role.

He said the decision came after ongoing “relentless racial filth”, blasting the ABC as an “institutional failure” over management allegedly failing to offer him public support.

ABC managing director David Anderson on Sunday offered an apology over the matter.

Mr Grant hosted his final episode of the current affairs panel show on Monday, during which he said “I am down right now, but I will get back up”.

Mr Grant’s decision prompted ABC staff across the country to walk out on Monday in a show of solidarity.

At the time of writing, a replacement for Mr Grant had not yet officially been announced by the ABC.
