A man has died after being pulled unconscious from the water at a surf park in Sydney.

He was taken to Concord Hospital in a critical condition but died a short time after arriving.

In a statement the surf park said it had temporarily closed the facility after a guest suffered a “medical episode”.

“The URBNSURF team responded to provide support and care for the guest before paramedics arrived,” they told The Daily Telegraph.

“Our main priority is the health, safety and wellbeing of our guests and staff and our thoughts are with them at this time.”

The newly opened surf pool has been closed until further notice.

Police are investigating the incident and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

The death has not been deemed suspicious.
