‘Absolute tragedy’: Mum killed in collision on Mother’s Day in regional Victoria
A mother has died and several others - including children - have been seriously injured in a crash that police say is an “absolute tragedy”.

A mother has died and several others, including children, are seriously injured after a horror two-car collision in Victoria’s Gippsland region.
Emergency services were called to the intersection of North Canal Rd and Willow Grove Rd in Trafalgar - about 124km east of Melbourne - shortly before 6pm on Sunday, after reports that two cars had collided.
Police believe the 52-year-oldmale driver from Dandenong North, who had a 49-year-old Dandenong Northfemale passenger and their two children in the back seat, drove through a stop sign and collided with another car.
After the collision, one of the vehicles rolled off the road and down an embankment, landing on its roof.
The female passenger, believed to be the children’s mother, died at the scene.
The male driver and the two children, a 19-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy, who were sitting in the back of the car, were flown to hospital with serious injuries.
Detective Sergeant Mark Amos said the woman’s death was a tragedy that occurred “on the worst possible day”, seemingly caused by “just a moment of inattention”.
“It’s just an absolute tragedy that we’ve got the loss of a life, a wife, a mother — on Mother’s Day — is killed in a crash that just should never, ever have occurred,” he said per the ABC.
“Someone is going to have to explain to this lady’s family, her children, why this happened, and believe me that is no easy task.
“They’ve been there when they’ve lost their mum, on the worst possible day.”
The driver of the second vehicle sustained minor injuries, a 60-year-old Yarragon man, and their passenger, a 58-year-old Yarragon woman, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Investigations into the crash are ongoing.
