Suzi Milgate is behind bars for allegedly driving over the foot of a worker who was tasked with repossessing a BMW.

Police alleged a BMW worker, who had been tasked with repossessing the vehicle, attended an address in Humpty Doo on Saturday.

While waiting for a tow truck to arrive, it is alleged Ms Milgate arrived on the scene in a Mazda, got out, and climbed into the driver’s seat of the BMW.

While the BMW worker tried to show Ms Milgate the repossession order, police allege Ms Milgate then conducted a three-point turn and knocked over several garden items in the process.

It is alleged Ms Milgate got into the BMW that was supposed to be repossessed and drove it over a man’s foot.

The court heard a resident also tried to stop Ms Milgate from leaving in the BMW, telling her the worker had a right to take the vehicle.

When Ms Milgate drove off, police allege she ran over the foot of the worker.

Later that evening, police arrested Ms Milgate and took her into custody.

She has since been charged with aggravated assault, recklessly endangering serious harm, driving unregistered and driving uninsured.

At Darwin Local Court on Monday, Ms Milgate applied for bail.

Ms Milgate’s lawyer, Olivia Edmonds, said her client was prepared to self-report to police twice a week and abide by a curfew.

“As for Ms Milgate’s personal circumstances, she is a vulnerable woman,” she said.

“She is currently struggling greatly with her mental health – namely PTSD and anxiety.”

Ms Edmonds maintained her client would not do well behind bars.

“Due to Ms Milgate’s vulnerabilities and mental health, custody would be particularly onerous for her.”

The court heard Ms Milgate had further witnesses to the incident who could provide “further insight” into the allegations.

Prosecutor Jessica Cornish said bail was opposed.

“There are concerns that the defendant does not always consistently appear in court when required,” she said.

“So there are concerns that if bailed, the defendant won’t be compliant with court orders.”

Ms Cornish also said the prosecution disputed Ms Milgate’s PTSD claims.

“Therefore those submissions should carry little weight,” she said.

Ms Cornish said it was fortunate the victim’s foot was on “boggy” ground when Ms Milgate allegedly drove over him, saying had it been on hard ground the injury would have been more serious.

Judge Ben O’Loughlin said he would refuse bail.

“Oh no,” Ms Milgate said as she called her lawyer over to the dock.

“I need a high degree of confidence that she won’t commit various list of offences and I don’t have a high degree of confidence.”

A directions hearing was set for January 19, 2026 as Ms Milgate was led back to the cells.
