Benjamin Law shares ‘awe-inspiring’ experience of filming at Uluru with Julia Zemiro for new season of TV show

A recent filming trip to the Red Centre has given one star an experience “like something out of a hallucination”. Find out why.

A recent Red Centre filming trip has left one star awe-struck by one of the Red Centre’s most iconic landmarks – describing the trip as like “something out of a hallucination”.

With filming now complete for the second season of Great Australian Walks with Julia Zemiro, Benjamin Law has spoken to this masthead to reflect on his time filming for the show’s fourth episode: Uluru.

“Everyone who grew up in Australia thinks they know what Uluru looks like,” he said.

“We’ve seen it on magnets, postcards, tea towels and tourism ads.

“But it’s hard to describe the sheer scale and immense power of the place until you’re there – and this is coming from someone who’s supposed to be a professional writer.”

Mr Law spent a day at Uluru filming for the show, and got to enjoy some bush tomatoes while he was there.

But the real highlight was the weather when visiting the site, Mr Law said.

“Overnight, it rained – a pretty special rarity – which meant that by the time we were shooting at Uluru, and there was fog covering most of the rock when we got there,” he said

“It was like something out of a hallucination; I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.”

For Ms Zemiro, show presenter and executive producer, she said she was excited to share the beautiful walks all parts of Australia have on on offer.

“Remember: everything is in walking distance, if you make the time,” she said.

Season two of Great Australian Walks premieres August 22.
