Popular Labor frontbencher Anthony Albanese has revealed he and wife Carmel Tebbutt have split up after more than 30 years together.

“I am deeply saddened that my relationship of over 30 years with Carmel Tebbutt has ended in separation,” the Grayndler MP said in a statement.

“We will continue to share parenting responsibilities of our 18-year-old son Nathan, who has successfully completed his HSC and has developed into an outstanding young man who we are both proud of.”

Mr Albanese said there were “no third parties involved” in the separation.

Ms Tebbutt held the NSW seat of Marrickville until it was abolished at the 2015 state election. She was the first woman in NSW to hold the position of deputy premier.

The pair married in 2000 and given their positions in the party’s Left faction were dubbed Labor’s “power couple”.
