Anthony Albanese reinforced Australia’s support for Ukraine after extraordinary scenes overnight where US president Donald Trump berated the war torn nation’ s leader Volodomir Zelensky.

Australia will “stand with Ukraine” despite extraordinary scenes overnight where US president Donald Trump berated the war torn nation’ s leader Volodomir Zelensky.

Anthony Albanese reinforced Australia’s support for Ukraine even in the face of the US shifting its foreign policy to favour Russia.

Overnight, Mr Trump and his Vice President JD Vance publicly dressed down Mr Zelensky accusing him of not wanting peace.

The argument played out in front of reporters before Mr Zelensky left the White House.

“We stand with Ukraine… the people of Ukraine are fighting not just for their own national sovereignty, they are fighting for the international rule of law,” Mr Albanese said.

“Australia has committed some $1.5 billion to help Ukraine defend itself, more than $1.3 billion of that is military support.

“We will continue to stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes, because this is the struggle of a democratic nation versus an authoritarian regime led by Vladimir Putin, who clearly has imperialistic designs, not just on Ukraine, but throughout that region.”

Mr Albanese labelled Putin a bully but stopped short of using the same description for Mr Trump.

“I am responsible for Australia’s foreign policy and Australia’s foreign policy is determined by Australia, and we stand unequivocally with Ukraine in their struggle, because we regard that as a struggle for the upholding of international law,” he said.
