Joint Emergency Services Communications Centre Acting Superintendent Drew Slape said the Advanced Mobile Location system was an update of the former system, which collected data from cell phone towers.

“Sometimes that would come from areas encompassing 15–20 residential blocks, now with the GPS location services we can get the location of the caller down to within 5m in some cases,” he said
