Adrian Kelly will always give back and work forward

Adrian Kelly had to Google what his King’s Birthday Honour was, shocked someone in real estate would receive such an honour. Read about his work through Covid, and leadership in housing.

Adrian Kelly was halfway through a teaching degree as a young man when he realised it was not the career he wanted.

It was this decision which led him to a 30 plus year long career in real estate and now earned Mr Kelly a Member of the Order of Australia honour.

While he was surprised, Mr Kelly said his mother, a staunch royalist, will be the most excited for this award.

“She’ll be very happy,” he said.

He plans to celebrate with a bottle or two of bubbly with his partner, Peter.

Mr Kelly said one of the most important challenges in his career was Covid.

“We had people living in houses, whether they were owner occupied or renters, and we had to try to find a way to make sure that if that pandemic really did bite hard, that everybody had somewhere to live and hide out for a couple of weeks or a couple of months,” he said.

“There was a lot of behind the scenes work that went on which nobody got to see and nobody still really knows about it, but it happened.”

Mr Kelly, who runs View Real Estate and has several offices, was the National President of the Real Estate Institute of Australia from 2019 to 2021.

“I think everybody who works and does pretty well out of a particular industry needs to take the time to give back,” he said.

“I honestly didn’t expect that it would result in something like this.”

His work on boards was a highlight, Mr Kelly said, because it was about trying to make “the world a better place, in terms of property.”

Mr Kelly said he was grateful for when he started out he was able to learn from people and now he is a mentor to many.

“I learned from them very early on that you’ve got to pass on what you know,” he said.
