Guiding Santa’s sleigh is hungry work, but Rudolph and his crew won’t be missing out on a feast this Christmas Eve.

Coles and Aussie growers have partnered for the third year to giveaway 50 tonnes of free ‘reindeer carrots’ — the equivalent weight of about eight African elephants — to shoppers between now and Sunday.

As the surplus stock from five Australian growers, the carrots will likely be wonky or blemished, making them perfect for reindeer treats

Coles business category manager for vegetables Jason Colosimo said while the initiative was aimed at adding a bit of Christmas magic in stores, it also helped repurpose food that would otherwise be destined for waste.

“At Coles, we believe in the magic of Christmas and the joy it brings to families, and our reindeer carrots is a small way of adding a touch of enchantment to the holiday season, making it memorable for both children and adults alike,” he said.

“This free giveaway is part of our commitment to community and to creating a positive experience for customers this Christmas.”

The free carrots can be found in designated collection points when exiting Coles stores while stocks last.
