He has been described as the “most hated man on the internet” and now some of Sydney’s elite private schools have warned parents about the dangers of their sons watching his misogynistic videos.

Leaders at two of Sydney’s top schools have sent home letters to parents alerting them to the vile content posted online by social influencer Andrew Tate.

It comes amid increased scrutiny on the dangerous cultures developing on social media platforms used by schoolchildren following The Daily Telegraph’s revelations about misogynistic, homophobic and anti-Semitic messages shared by Knox Grammar students on a secret chat group.

British-American kickboxer Tate has attracted global internet fame in recent months with clips where he talks about hitting and choking women and compared being in a relationship with a female to “training a dog”.

He has also attracted widespread condemnation for comments such as he “would not let a female drive” and that women should “bear responsibility” for being sexually assaulted.

Scots College’s head of students James Bowles wrote in the school newsletter Tate’s rants  were “understandably alarming”.

“Parents are worried that his horrific attitude will corrupt their teenage son/s, and adolescent girls are becoming scared of their male counterparts,” he wrote.

“What Tate is really seeking with his online tirades is the power that comes from eliciting a reaction ... this is the key concept parents should remember when managing this type of situation.”

Trinity Grammar deputy head Bradley Barr issued a similar warning about Tate, telling parents his “reach probably extends into many of your homes and to the social media feeds of many of your sons”.

“I am of the view that if your son is being exposed to Mr Tate’s vitriol, he needs some adult assistance to mediate how he thinks about what he is hearing,” he said.

Melinda Tankard Reist, the director of the Collective Shout movement against the objectification of women and sexualisation of girls in the media, said schoolchildren had been reporting incidents of sexism and sexual harassment.

“Girls are telling me, in grades as young as five and six, they receive rape jokes, they receive threats that their mothers and sisters will be raped if they don’t send naked pictures,” she said.

“Every day they are sexually groaned and moaned at, they endure this every day.

“And what we’ve been told by boys, is that they’re getting treated more cruelly by other boys.

“The ‘good’ boys were called more vicious names and ripped to pieces just for being decent, boys are telling us that more in schools just this year.”
