The list of 2023’s most popular university courses has revealed medical degrees remain the most competitive course, but science and business degrees are increasing in popularity.
More than 1600 school-leavers are vying for a spot in the state’s number one most popular course, UNSW’s combined Bachelor of Medical Studies/Doctor of Medicine, nearly 100 more than last year figures from the University Admissions Centre show.
The University of Newcastle and University of New England joint Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine program, and Western Sydney University and Charles Sturt University’s joint Doctor of Medicine program also made the top 10.
The University of Technology Sydney’s Bachelor of Nursing was the eighth most popular course with 649 students making it their first choice.
Would-be undergrads are spreading out their preference, however. UTS’ Bachelor of Business has moved into second position in the top 10, up one spot with 72 fewer applicants than the year previous.
UNSW’s single and double Bachelor of Computer Science degrees are newcomers to the list, sneaking in at number 10 with 561 first preferences.
University of Sydney and UNSW courses dominate the list of most popular courses, with three degrees listed each.
The second round of January offers will be released on January 25, so students have until midnight Thursday to check out the top 10 list below and adjust their preferences accordingly.
