Technical issues have derailed NAPLAN tests, with some systems going offline for about half an hour as school students took part in the annual assessments.

It is understood not all students were impacted by the issues, which the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority is now investigating.

A spokesman for the authority said schools had been advised to proceed with their testing.

“We are aware of an incident that affected the NAPLAN test platform earlier this morning,” he said.

“Action has been taken to address the technical issue, and schools have been advised and are able to continue testing.”

The Daily Telegraph has been told impacted students may be given more time to complete their tests.

A NSW Education Standards Authority spokeswoman said there had been an increase in calls from schools reporting a technical issue between 10am and 11am.

Schools were advised to pause the exam, with students being given extra time once restarting.

“Teachers are being allowed to give students extra (time) if they were affected,” she said.
