Two teenage girls have been charged following the alleged assault of a 15-year-old classmate at a bus stop in Sydney’s southwest on Tuesday.

The 15-year-old Eldersie High School was allegedly confronted and assaulted by the two 13 year-olds at a bus stop in Elderslie.

Police said the girl was left with cuts and bruises on her head, arms and upper body from the incident.

Bystanders filmed the confrontation and NSW Police began an investigation, before the two 13-year-olds were brought to Narellan Police Station at 9am on Wednesday.

There, one was charged with two counts of stalking or intimidating with the intent of causing fear or physical harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, while the second 13-year-old was charged with one count of stalking or intimidating with intent to cause fear or physical harm, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

They pair, who have also been suspended from school, were granted bail to appear at a children’s court on December 19.

Shocking footage of a teenage girl allegedly being stomped on during the violent incident in southwest Sydney has prompted calls for a crackdown on school discipline.

One Nation MP Mark Latham, who was given the video, said it was “horrific” and “disturbing” and he was told that the school initially suggested it was a “police matter”, before the girls involved in the bullying were suspended on Wednesday morning.

In the raw footage, a girl seated at the bus stop is seen to be taunted by the aggressor, who shouts “look at me” before allegedly slapping her in the face.

The aggressor then allegedly drags her victim by her head onto the concrete footpath, repeatedly punching her in the head before using her feet to stomp on her face.

They are surrounded by other students who seemingly laugh, shout and jeer, filming on mobile phones - then a second girl also allegedly kicks at the victim on the ground.

Finally another student finally intervenes and the confrontation ends.

“It’s a vicious and very disturbing incident, it could have been much worse with the smashing of the girl’s head into the concrete pavement,” Mr Latham said.

“It just shows how wild some of these schools and students have become and the weakening of disciplinary standards, they have not worked.

“No parent with kids at that school can look at the video and rest easy at night thinking my kid might be next.

“It’s a sign of the historic weakening of disciplinary standards that has backfired badly because it’s enabled bullies and violent kids to attack others.”

In October, the school informed parents in its newsletter that a new student behaviour policy - to be used by all NSW public schools - was being introduced.

Instead of two types of suspensions, long and short, all suspensions would be for 10 days.

“Suspensions may either be for causing actual harm to any person or where a student poses an unacceptable risk to the health and safety, learning and/or the wellbeing of any person.

“As has always been the case in the past, suspension is only ever used as a last resort and affects a very small proportion of students.”

A NSW Department of Education spokesman said: “Late last night, the school was notified of a fight involving three students that occurred after school yesterday off school grounds.

“The incident was investigated first thing this morning by the school , resulting in the immediate suspension of two students.

“Support is being provided to the victim by the school and the incident is also being investigated by NSW Police.”
