Parents will be able to use $150 worth of Back to School vouchers to pay for excursions in the first half of the year with Premier Dominic Perrottet expanding a popular cost of living relief policy to cover school events.
The scheme – which gives parents three $50 vouchers per child in school – was designed to cover the cost of back to school essentials like uniforms and stationary.
More than 1.9 million vouchers have already been redeemed since the program was launched, with families spending more than $412 million on school items.
Now families will be able to use their vouchers to cover out-of-pocket excursion costs as well.
“Our long-term economic plan is supporting parents by easing financial pressure on
household budgets through this important program,” Premier Dominic Perrottet said.
“By allowing parents to use these vouchers for school excursions we are providing
yet another measure to ease financial pressure on back to school costs.”
Education Minister Sarah Mitchell said the scheme helps parents pay for school costs regardless of what grade their child is in.
The vouchers can be redeemed via the ServiceNSW app and families have until June 30 to redeem them.
The Daily Telegraph can also reveal that families in Sydney’s West are the biggest users of the back to school vouchers.
Blacktown tops the list of local government areas accessing the scheme, with more than 42,000 customers registering.
Canterbury-Bankstown comes in second with almost 31,000 registrations.
