Police have revealed the tragic set of circumstances they allege led up to a woman’s death on a major Sydney road.
Emergency services were called to the scene at Cowpasture Rd between Newton Rd and The Horsley Drive about 6.30am after reports of a serious crash between a pedestrian and a truck.
However, the original call-out was in response to a minor collision between the truck and a sedan.
While emergency services rushed to the scene, a 55-year-old woman was standing near the crash scene when the truck allegedly moved forward, striking her, police said.
Police understand the woman had been supervising a 17-year-old boy learning to drive when the alleged incident occurred.
Paramedics worked to revive the woman, however she died at the scene.
The 17-year-old was treated for shock but otherwise uninjured.
Traffic was banked up on the road for a number of hours after the incident, with drivers advised to avoid the area.
The driver of the truck – a 51-year-old man – was not injured but was taken to Liverpool Hospital for mandatory testing.
No charges have been laid.
A crime scene was established and will be examined by specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
