Sydneysiders who are fed up with hours-long congestion and pothole-filled roads have voted for the state’s worst street.

NSW residents have voted for the state’s worst road with Sydney streets making up six out of the ten top spots.

Unlucky commuters who travel on Parramatta Road through Auburn have to put up with the worst road in all of NSW, with bad conditions and congestion the reason for its low rating of 34.

The second worst spot went to The Lakes Way at Forester on the Mid-Coast followed by Kings Highway at Bungendore.

A record 28,292 votes were cast in the NRMA Rate Your Roads survey for 10,800 roads, another record for the survey.

Voters rated the condition of the road, level of congestion and overall safety.

Military Road at Mosman and Victoria Road in West Ryde were also among the top worst roads in the state for congestion, while the Hills Motorway at Carlingford failed to impress voters for its poor condition.

The survey was an attempt to get government to fix a “critical issue facing our nation” according to NRMA spokesperson Peter Koury.

“This community-led advocacy works – some of the state’s worst roads no longer make the list because Governments have responded by investing in solutions,” he said.

“This has helped save lives, boosted our economy and got our Members home to their families faster.”

The unprecedented rainy conditions caused by months of a La Nina weather event have seen thousands of potholes fill the city streets.

More than 22,500 potholes were repaired in Sydney and more than one million sq metres of road re-sheeted in the past 12 months.

Local councils in Sydney’s north and west, where the majority of the worst voted roads are, were $220 million to repair thousands of potholes in the city.

Blacktown, Parramatta, Penrith, The Hills and Hawkesbury Councils each received more than $10 million.

More than 11,000 call-outs were made to NRMA in January alone for wheel and tyre damages across NSW, up from 9700 the year before.

The survey also revealed the best roads, with voters naming Mona Vale Road at St Ives as the states best for congestion reasons.

That was followed up by Pennant Hills Road at Carlingford and Windsor Road at The Hills, both for safety reasons.
