Driver dies in freak incident on major Melbourne freeway
A driver has died after in a freak incident on a major freeway, with police hoping to speak with the driver of another vehicle.

A driver has died in a freak accident on a major freeway in Melbourne’s northwest.
A white truck was driving towards Altona on the M80 Ring Road about 4pm when an object fell off the back.
The object then travelled across the freeway and hit a car travelling towards the Greensborough direction.
The driver of the car was declared dead at the scene and is yet to be identified.
All Greensborough-bound lanes of the M80 Ring Road are now closed between Ballarat Road and Sunshine Avenue, following a collision near Furlong Road. All traffic is being diverted onto Ballarat Road, using McIntyre Road to return to the M80 Ring Road. #victrafficpic.twitter.com/PpfRmvtcwJ

The truck driver didn’t stop following the incident and was last seen travelling towards Altona.
It was not known if the driver was aware the incident occurred.
Police are looking to speak with the driver and has urged anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.
All Greensborough-bound lanes were closed between Ballarat Road and Sunshine Avenue following the collision.
