Disabled woman’s heartbreaking note for driver of car parked illegally in disability bay

An inconsiderate driver has been called out by a woman over a frustratingly common parking act. Her handwritten note instantly struck a chord online.

A chronically ill woman has penned a desperate note to the driver of a car that used a disability parking space for more than a week without displaying a permit.

The Gold Coast woman had no choice but to park in her building’s basement and endure a painful walk up two steep ramps because the vehicle used her regular spot – something that had left her in tears multiple times.

Even after reporting the car to building management and security, it remained unmoved with staff unable to have it towed.

With all other options exhausted, she opted to leave the driver a note, highlighting how “extremely difficult” they had made her week.

“I hope you enjoyed your holiday, however, since you’ve arrived, you have been parked in a disability parking space without a permit,” her note, later shared to social media, wrote.

“This has made my week extremely difficult as I rely on these spaces to prevent me from having to park in far away parks, or sometimes the basement.

“In future, please be more aware of where you are parking and how it may affect others.”

In her online post, she stressed how frustrating and disheartening it was when people used disabled parking bays without a permit.

“I’m fed up that no one seems to notice how exhausting it is for disabled people to have these parks taken away from them,” she wrote.

“I left a note on their car and tagged my chronic illness/disability Instagram page so they can educate themselves on why this is harmful, inconsiderate and illegal.”

She also left them a “disability ally” sticker which she said they could stick on their car “or shove up their a**”.

In Queensland, drivers can be fined $575 for parking without a permit in a disabled space.

Some offered advice on additional steps the woman could take to kick the driver, who has not moved their vehicle in seven days, into action.

“I would warn the hotel that if nothing is done then you will have to leave a review warning others who have disability permits that the hotel doesn’t take it seriously and allows non disability patrons to park in it without incident and how it made you feel,” one person suggested.

“I would phone the hotel every single time and make someone come out with a wheelchair to wheel you back in, seeing as they have no problem with the person using the disabled spot, then they won’t have a problem assisting you until someone moves the damn car,” another said.

Many others remarked how calm the woman was in her note given how horribly she had been inconvenienced.

Several agreed she was “a lot nicer than I would have been”.
