A major arterial highway has been closed after two trucks and a car collided southeast of Rockhampton in Queensland’s Gladstone region.

Emergency services were called to the Bruce Highway at Benaraby about 12.30pm on Monday following reports of a multi-car crash.

A QAS spokesperson said paramedics had so far assessed a single person who had to be extricated from their vehicle.

The person suffered significant head, chest, and leg injuries, and an ambulance helicopter had been dispatched.

Queensland Police said both lames of the busy highway south of Tannum Sands were “blocked following a traffic crash”.

“Motorists are advised to avoid the area and to expect delays,” police said.
