Toyota increases price of favourite HiLux models

Transport costs are rising, and the asking price of Australia’s best-selling utes has increased in price in the past few months.

Running changes to Australia’s best-selling car have driven up its price, forcing motorists to dig deeper to get hold of a new model.

New tech for Toyota’s HiLux SR5 pushes its price up by $1250 to $64,430 plus on-road costs in fully-loaded automatic form, adding to increased costs for tradies who need a fresh set of wheels.

The cost is justified by the addition of a 360-degree camera along with blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alerts that bring it closer to advanced models such as the new Ford Ranger.

Cheaper HiLux SR models benefit from the addition of alloy wheels in place of steel rims (adding $1250 to the bill), while higher-grade variants get a new security immobiliser.

The updated HiLux arrives in October. It has the same engines as before – peaking with 150kW and 500Nm in high-end models – and will be joined by a new wide body HiLux Rogue variant.

The Ford Ranger, Toyota HiLux and Isuzu D-Max have increased in price this year.

Toyota’s tweaks come after arch rival Isuzu announced changes to the D-Max ute that push the popular X-Terrain model up by $4000 to $58,990 drive-away.

And Ford’s new Ranger Ute is no cheaper than the previous-generation model.

Prices for the Ranger increased by $700 to $2000 or so, before you factor in a $6000 increase for the high-performance Raptor model.

The D-Max, HiLux and Ranger represent three of Australia’s favourite cars.

All three cars, the Toyota, Isuzu and Ford, have also attracted significant waiting lists of buyers who are prepared to be patient to get hold of a new car.
